Dry soil removal is best done with vacuuming. Regular vacuuming will keep the carpet pile lifted to help from crushing and matting as well as remove dry soil particulate that is damaging to the carpet fibers. With a family of five, we suggest you vacuum your more frequented areas at least every other day, if not every day. Less used areas such as bedrooms(depending on your situation) can be vacuumed less frequently. Do not forget about closets to remove dust and soiling there as well.
When purchasing a vacuum you want one that has a good beater bar, and has the ability to adjust its height based on the different pile heights. You want the beater bar to have some aggression to dig the fine particulate out, but you don't want it to be digging too hard and damage the carpet. You will have to test different settings to find the happy medium. Some vacuums perform better than others, that is absolutely true, however the important thing to remember is to actually perform the vacuuming.Read More
1) Rotate the rug – rotating your rugs allow for even wear, especially in higher trafficked areas. At a minimum you should rotate your rug once a year and in areas that are more frequented you should rotate every 4-6 months.
2) Vacuuming – area and oriental rugs are just like carpet. They need to be vacuumed regularly to remove soils that will damage the fiber. Choose a vacuum with a good beater bar so that it removes the fine particulate. It is also a good idea to fold back half of the rug and sweep underneath it. After vacuuming you will like find dust and soil particle underneath as the beater bar will help remove dirt from the rugs foundation. Be careful not to vacuum the fringe with your vacuum as this can damage the fringe and even worse; you could pull a yarn and unravel the rug's weaving.Read More
Tile and grout maintenance can be difficult but there are a few rules to follow that can make it easier. The following is a step-by-step process that can help you keep your grout clean and in good repair for a long time.
Step 1: Sweeping and dry vacuuming Consistent sweeping is integral to maintaining your floor. If loose dirt is left on the floor for an extended period of time it can embed itself into the pores of the grout. This makes it harder to remove and causes unsightly stains. Vacuuming and sweeping at least 3 times a week will make grout maintenance much easier. As with most things in life; a proactive approach is usually the best course of action.Read More
We get asked all of the time as a homeowner what can we do to deal with pet issues. There are so many products available that everything is so confusing and they do not want to damage their carpet. Absorb as much as possible - We recommend using white terry towels and to compress the spot with something that has a good amount of weight so that the towel can absorb as much as possible. A stack of books, a heavy door stopper, or other manageable but heavy objects placed on the terry towel will compress it well. If there is a lot of urine, consider using a thicker white towel or change out the terry towel(s) for a fresh dry one(s). We recommend keeping the heavy object(s) on the towel(s) for 3-4 hours to give it time to work. There is a chance that the urine will wick completely into the towel and not leave a spot or stain.Read More
